It’s Been Too Long

So, I suddenly realized, I’d not posted here in the best part of two years.

I’ve not done a ton of work with the camera, to be fair. I’ve had some technical issues (it IS a ten year-old Nikon D70s that has been… places), and in general, it’s been less fun to use, due to image quality and data loss.

However.

I have taken pictures, and I have posted nothing.

SO I’ll get back to it.

And in the meantime, here’s a small selection.

Shooting With the Coupes (pt 1)

I should have a few of these posts up in the next few days, I got some great shots when I went out shooting with a couple or five guys in the local Genesis Coupe Community (and one Nissan 370z hitchhiker).

So, I already posted one black & white so lets do a few more, eh?

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

I love high-contrast automotive photography. So, when I went out with a few of the guys in the local ‘coupe group, I knew I’d be shooting some B&W high-contrast.

What I’d forgotten, the last year, is that the high-contrast work gets more interesting when you get down to changing the temperature of the black & white shot.

And this is where I ended up.

Perigee Moon

It’s tough to shoot the moon (heh. Makes me think of the “Dukes of Hazzard” movie) when everything you normally do is close-up and wide-angle.

Which, I think, almost makes this more interesting.

ISO 400, f/11, 1/320th second

I wouldn’t normally include the hardware, but with some cropping, I think it’s interesting to see what you can actually for detail in a shot like this, with something as normal as a 50mm. If you take your time, and plan your crop ahead of time.

Also, I do love me some negative space!

Hanging with the Dog

There’s nothing quite like seeing a dog really, really enjoying themselves, especially when they’re doing what they do best. Fetching things, and getting muddy.

Down the Waterfall
ISO 320, f/3.2, 1/250th

Once again, this is a situation where I was really glad to have my G12 with me. The image isn’t perfect, even 1/250th wasn’t quite enough to freeze-frame the pooch as he barrelled down this small stream and waterfall, but I would definitely not have been ready with my dSLR, even if I’d brought it, which, to just walk the dog and play with him, I wouldn’t.

It’s always about the camera you have, not the camera you wished you had.

Shoot In The Fog

Heavy fog this morning, and as we were going out anyway, it was a good time to take a few shots. Made the choice to only bring my G12, rather than my Nikon. One in black and white, one in color. Not sure which I prefer.

Last Winter Shot - Genesis Coupe

Soon the winter tires will come off, the new summers will go on, and it’ll be a different looking car. There’s a few other cosmetic changes planned for this summer too, but I’ll leave them for when they happen.

Old Shots: Under the Bridge

I still love this one, and it’s another that i have printed large (24×36). I love the leading line, and the HDR is pretty subtle.
